Started out as a trading post named after the man who decided, right then and there, to do some business, Antoine LeBeau, a Frenchman, like so many other trappers of his time. In 1875, he put up his business on the east side of the Missouri, just across from the Cheyenne River Reservation, and started trading furs, pots, pans, and whatever his customers, white and red, thought worth buying and selling in LeBeau, South Dakota.

Food for Thought is back on the road, today. It's a short trip, just across the street from FM90. Chef Brett McCarthy, Administrative Program Coordinator of Culinary Arts, led us into the WIT's new Culinary Arts Program's kitchen classrooms – spotless stainless steel surfaces, walls and floors precisely tiled, refrigerators humming. It was enough to make our little hearts burst, a truly beautiful and inspiring space.

  Western Iowa Tech Community College was recently declared a Blue Zones area.  Students, faculty and employees are flocking to the college’s Dunker Student Center to sign up for opportunities in a facility that offers state-of-the-art equipment with computers and televisions, a full-sized gymnasium, indoor track, weight room, and classes such as yoga, super circuits, spinning, Zumba and Taekwondo.

Steve Warnstadt: The state universities, the three state universities, Iowa, Iowa State, and Northern Iowa, have understood that they need to be providing services in northwest Iowa. So last year they established the Northwest Iowa Regents Resource Center, which is a collaboration between those three and the two community colleges in northwest Iowa.
