City of Sioux City

A deadly fire in Sioux City remains under investigation.  A man and woman died at hospital of their injuries, another man critically hurt.

The fire broke out at a home on West 1st Street about 7 blocks west of Hamilton Boulevard.

While putting out the fire and looking in the basement firefighters found the three fire victims.

Sioux City Fire Marshal Mark Aesoph there weren’t any working smoke alarms in the house.

On August 17, 1962, President John F. Kennedy stood behind a podium just north of Pierre, South Dakota. The President of the United States was here for the dedication of Oahe Dam, an earthen monster that created the fourth largest man-made reservoir in the world.

Seven mighty Oahe turbines create enough electricity to power whole regions of the country. Oahe Dam stands 245 feet above the river bottom and required 92 million cubic yards of fill dirt, plus well over a million cubic yards of concrete.

More flooding is likely along the Missouri River after heavy rains and flooding upstream in South Dakota.

The National Weather Service says some moderate flooding is likely this week along the river between Sioux City, Iowa, and Rulo, Nebraska.

Some parts of South Dakota received as much as 7 inches of rain over two days.

The Missouri River is expected to crest later this week after rising significantly.
