Reconstruction of the Northshore Drive in North Sioux City moves toward completion, more than two years after the 2024 flood damaged the McCook Lake area.
Northshore Drive, the main road accessing the Dakota Valley School building, has been closed since April. As of Tuesday, construction on the road is 50 percent completed, as first reported by KTIV.
If needed, employees are using the road shoulder and sidewalk to access the elementary school.
Crews working on the road are aiming to complete it by the beginning of the school year. They are currently working on the east half of the road and plan to shift focus to the west half next week.
Jeff Dooley, city administrator of North Sioux City, said the new road has better infrastructure than the previous one.
Dooley added it’s wider, providing more room for traffic flow, and the storm sewers can channel more water.
The estimated cost of the reconstruction project is about $3.8 million and construction is expected to be completed by August 18.
