The Sioux City Council will discuss submitting a grant application of $7.6 million to the U.S. Economic Development Administration for the Innovation Center in its meeting Monday.
The innovation center is intended to be a place to assist entrepreneurs, creators, and small businesses to turn ideas into action. It will be located in downtown Sioux City at 308 Iowa Street and 1200 4th Street.
Innovate Siouxland, is a collaborative partnership between the City of Sioux City, Western Iowa Tech Community College, Siouxland Public Media and Iowa’s West Coast initiative that are working together to develop the innovation center.
According to a memo, the city is eligible for the disaster supplemental grant program because of the 2024 flooding event. It helps communities impacted by disasters implement economic recovery and lasting projects.
Recently, the design for the project has been completed with the overall construction cost estimated at $9.5 million.
The memo states that the collectively innovate Siouxland has secured about $2.3 million.
