The Estherville City Council approved entering an agreement with the Northwest Iowa Planning and Development Commission to help the city apply for a state grant.
The commission will help the city with the Community Development Block Grant application to ensure it meets all requirements and guidelines, as first reported by Explore Okoboji.
Penny Clayton, city administrator of Estherville, explained the commission understands the grant application process, which she noted was complex.
Clayton said the cost of their service is $2,500 and will come from the general fund, adding that if the city is awarded the grant, it would receive $25,000.
She said the $25,000 would supply the city’s share for the FEMA buyout program of two properties severely damaged in the 2024 flood.
The city council approved the agreement during its meeting Monday.
