Two Sioux City men are running for statewide office in 2026.
Republican Chris McGowan, of Sioux City, has no opponents from his own party for the Iowa 4th congressional district contest this year.
The Iowa 4th congressional seat is being vacated by three-term Congressman Randy Feenstra, as he instead runs for the governor seat.
Other Republicans had said they would run for that congressional seat. Ryan Rhodes, of Ames, apparently did not submit nomination papers by the candidate filing period that ended on Friday, March 13, as of an online summary one after the period ended.
The Three DEmocratic Iowa 4th congressional candidates are Dave Dawson of Lawton, Stephanie Steiner of Sutherland, and Ashley WolfTornabane of Storm Lake.
Additionally, Jim Carlin, of Sioux City, is one of two Republicans running for the U.S. Senate seat, along with Ashley Hinson. Carlin is a former state legislator.
The Democrats running for the U.S. Senate seat are Josh Turek, of Council Bluffs, and Zach Wahls, of Coralville. U.S.Sen Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, will leave office after 12 years and two terms.
A rematch of a closely-watched 2025 special election will involve the same two nominees in November. Democrat Catelin Drey, of Sioux City, flipped the Iowa Senate District 1 seat from Republican control, when defeating Christopher Prosch.
Seven Northwest Iowa Republican legislative officeholders have no competition. Those Include Kevin Alons, of Salix, in Iowa Senate District 7, plus in Iowa House seats, Robert Driesen, of Ireton, in HD3, Skyler Wheeler, of Hull, in HD 4, Megan Jones, of Sioux Rapids, in HD 6, John Wills, of Spirit Lake, in HD10, Travis Sitzmann, of Kingsley, in HD13, and Jacob Bossman, of Sioux City, in House District 14.
In Iowa House District 5, Republican Keith Glienke, of Aurelia, appeared to be running unopposed, but a late filing by Republican Michael Schnoes, of Sutherland, changed that.
In two legislative districts, there are two Democrats running.
In Iowa House District 1, the Democrats from Sioux City who are candidates are Kenny Kroll and Shawn Olorundam, and the winner will vie for the seat in November with Republican Josh Steinhoff of Sioux City. That HD1 position that is being vacated at the end of the year by Democratic representative J.D. Scholten, of Sioux City, ewho defeated Steinhoff in 2024.
In Iowa House District 12, where longtime Republican officeholder Steven Holt, of Denison, is running again, the two Democrats running are Brady Meyer, of Holstein, and Dustin Durbin, of Dow City.
Another Sioux City Democrat seeking a state representative seat is Jess Lopez Walker. Two years ago, she ran unsuccessfully for the Iowa House District 2 seat that was won by Republican Bob Henderson. The HD2 contest will be a Henderson and Lopez Walker rematch.
Another rematch in November will come in Iowa House District 7, as in an October 2025 special election, Republican Wendy Larson, of Odebolt, defeated Democrat Rachel Burns, also of Odebolt.
Additionally, Iowans running for county office have a separate filing timeline, which is one week off on March 20.
