March has been a busy period in terms of Iowa candidates for the November election announcing campaigns and filing nomination papers to get on the ballot.

Two Democrats who live in Woodbury County are seeking seats in the Iowa Legislature. Kenny Kroll is seeking the Iowa House District 1 seat, which is a position that is being vacated at the end of the year by DEmocrstic representative J.D. Scholten, of Sioux City.

Another Sioux City Democrat seeking a state representative seat is Jess Lopez Walker. Two years ago, she ran unsuccessfully for the Iowa House District 2 seat that was won by Republican Bob Henderson.

Lopez Walker said she will file nomination papers later this week, and helped organize rallies over the last 11 months protesting actions by the Trump administration.

Candidates running for state or federal office must file by March 13, and those seeking county office must do that by March 20.

Woodbury County Board of Supervisors member Dan Bittinger on Tuesday announced he is seeking a new term. Bittinger is a Republican who was elected in 2022 to the county district 2 seat, and told Siouxland Public Media News he wants to continue pushing back against “a federalization within the Iowa General Assembly, resulting in a loss of local control.”

In one other piece of candidate news, Republican Christian Schlaefer is ending his campaign for the Iowa 4th congressional district position. The two remaining Iowa 4th candidates are Chris McGowan, of Sioux City, and Iowa Tea Party founder Ryan Rhodes, of Ames.
