Gov. Reynolds Asks for Federal Disaster Declaration; SD Surpasses 10,000 C19 Cases

Officials say it will take five days or longer to restore power to some Iowa homes and businesses after a wind storm left damage across the Midwest on Monday and killed at least four people. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds held a news conference in Cedar Rapids today, one of the most heavily affected areas. 

Reynolds says Iowa will submit its application for a federal disaster declaration, and Iowans should have power fully restored by Tuesday. 

 

Siouxland District Health Department’s board of health has approved a formal mask recommendation for Woodbury County that falls short of a mandate.

 

The recommendation strongly encourages people to wear cloth face masks in “public settings,” and when they’re around people outside of their immediate household. 

 

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says local governments can’t mandate masks while her statewide emergency order is in place. The announcement comes as The SDH officials reported ten new cases of COVID-19 in Woodbury County today.

 

The Iowa Department of Public Health as of this morning, there have been a total of 3,779 positive cases of COVID-19 in the county. The county’s death toll remains at 52. The state of Iowa has reported 678 additional cases of the coronavirus, with a total of 50,807 cases, with a total of 964 deaths as of today.  

South Dakota surpassed 10,000 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, and two more deaths were reported today.

 

According to the South Dakota Department of Health, the Argus Leader reports that South Dakota has a total of 150 COVID-19 deaths.   

Nebraska had accounted for 29,660 cases, and 360 deaths.

Dakota County had 1,908 cases and 42 deaths.
