Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services announced Friday they plan to award more than $78.6 million in funding as part of the Iowa Healthy Hometowns Project.
The funds come from the Rural Health Transformation program, a program aimed at addressing rural health issues by expanding telehealth care, recruiting more health care providers, and increasing cancer care.
Iowa was awarded a total of $209 million for the first year of the program. About $66 million will provide health care facilities with medical equipment, and approximately $12 million will go toward recruiting health care providers.
According to a press release, Iowa is the first state in the country to award funding for its project initiatives.
Healthcare facilities expected to receive funding include Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital Association, Floyd Valley Hospital, and Palo Alto County Health System.
The full list of recipients is on the Iowa Health and Human Services website.
