The Sioux City School Board discussed the interim superintendent position in its meeting Monday.
Jan George said the school board would not be able to offer a contract until after March 31st, when Superintendent Juan Cordova’s contract will end.
The school board agreed that the interim position should run from April 1st, 2026, to June 2027, allowing the board time to search for a new superintendent.
There were questions brought up about what the interim superintendent's responsibilities should be and if the search for the interim superintendent should be open or closed.
Another question raised was if the board uses the same consulting agency, are they able to get a refund or free service due to the result of the last search. Or are they able to get a refund even if the consulting agency will not provide the service.
At the end of the discussion, the school board decided to schedule a work session, to work out all the details and get all their questions answered. During the work session the school board is unable to make motions or decisions, but is able to add an action item to a meeting agenda.
