The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska released a “Know Your Rights” document so tribal members know what to do if they encounter Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The document recommends that tribal members contact the Omaha Nation Law Enforcement Dispatch immediately if ICE stops or detains them. As tribal members are contacting dispatch, they should state they are an Omaha Tribal member who needs help with an ICE encounter.
The document includes instructions on what to do if ICE comes to your home and contact information for dispatch and the Chief of Tribal Operations office.
Other tribes and national organizations, including the National Congress of American Indians, have been releasing Know Your Rights documents and recommending tribal members update or obtain their tribal IDs.
