Woodbury County Attorney James Loomis on Tuesday announced he is seeking re-election in November.
Loomis announced his run for another four-year term in a press conference in Sioux City. The county attorney is the top attorney for Woodbury County government, and heads an office with a stable of attorneys who prosecute criminal cases.
Loomis, a Republican, was first elected in 2022. He said he should get re-elected after delivering on promises to carry out “engagement, communication, and partnership with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies and our community leaders.”
He also touted the endorsement of 125 law enforcement members.
Four Woodbury County elective office positions will be on the November 3 ballot. Those include county attorney, county treasurer, now held by Republican Tina Bertrand, plus the county board of supervisors positions in District 2 and 4. Those supervisors currently are Republicans Dan Bittinger and Matthew Ung, respectively.
To get on the ballot, people running for county office must file nomination papers from March 2 to 20. Iowans seeking state or federal office must file nomination papers from February 24 to March 13.
