Sioux City School District officials are discussing plans to expand dual-language programs to serve a diverse student body.

The school board heard a proposal in their Monday meeting to expand a Spanish-language program across 11 more elementary schools and all three middle schools.

About 40 percent of the Sioux City student body is Latino.

Currently, one elementary school has a dual-language designation.
