Iowa Adds Seven More COVID-19 Deaths; 181 New Cases

Health officials have reported nine new positive cases of COVID-19 in Woodbury County.

The Siouxland District Health Department said Tuesday the new cases were reported out of 73 new tests. No deaths were reported, a day after two deaths increased the county's death toll to 50.

Iowa Department of Public Health data showed that as of this morning, Woodbury County has had 3,653 total cases of COVID-19.

The Dakota County Health Department reported three new cases today, increasing the county's total number of cases to 1,878.

Another seven people with COVID-19 have died in Iowa, and there have been an additional 181 confirmed cases, the state reported today.

At a press conference this morning, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds was asked about being flexible with schools when it comes to in-person learning as the state battles COVID-19, even though she has set down fairly firm rules about in person attendance.  Reynolds said she would try to meet the needs of parents.

“If they have a child with underlying conditions, or they feel that it is in the child’s best interest, then the parent will make the decision to go 100 percent online.  We have said that the 50 percent or more class instruction needs to be in person, it needs to target on core subjects.”

The governor also reiterated the need for students to be in school to get support for learning, meals, and social services as well.
