Join the Western Iowa Tech Community Choir. Vocal Music Instructor and Director of Choral Activities, William Darwin, Jr., will be leading the choir on Tuesday nights. Every level of singer is welcome. The choir will perform at least once a semester. Singing in a choir is incredible for your well-being. Numerous studies show it can relieve stress, boost the immune system, and build a sense of belonging. Join the WITCC community choir to create lovely harmony in your life.

Explore the National Music Museum’s Founding Collection at June’s Discovery Saturday

Join us at the National Music Museum (NMM) on Saturday, June 7, as we celebrate our founding collector, Arne B. Larson, and the remarkable instruments he brought to Vermillion over 50 years ago.

Instrument Spotlight Talks will take place on the hour from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Larson Gallery, featuring highlights from the original Larson collection.

Start your visit with Music Storytime at 10:30 a.m., when Anna Van Kley will read a new NMM children’s book about Arne and introduce kids to real instruments from the story—now on exhibit. This program is free and generously sponsored by the M.A. Everist Foundation.

All Discovery Saturday activities are included with museum admission.

Discovery Saturdays take place on the first Saturday of each month, offering visitors special activities and guided educational tours throughout the museum.

At 2:00pm on June 8, 2025, the Betty Strong Encounter Center welcomes to its stage the unique musical stylings of “Sunflower Slim” (Todd Pirck). Admission is free with a reception to follow

Sunflower Slim will play his versions of country, folk, rock, and blues music. He will talk about why he believes that music is incredibly important to people’s lives.

He operates a sunflower ranch in his hometown of Davenport, Iowa, where he harvests seeds and gives them away to people at his shows all around the country.
