Oct 25 Saturday
On Saturday, October 25, beginning at 10 a.m., Tom Munson, Archives Manager, and Haley Aguirre, Archival Records Clerk, will guide attendees through historic Floyd cemetery, sharing stories and photos of some of Sioux City’s most influential residents. The tour will start at the main entrance of Floyd Cemetery, located at 2500 E. 7th Street.
Participants should be prepared for moderate walking, including hilly terrain, as the tour covers a broad section of the cemetery grounds.
Founded in 1866, Floyd Cemetery began with a donation of land from John Hagy — a field on a bluff overlooking the Floyd River. The walking tour will include stops at the graves of early settlers, civic leaders, and other prominent figures who helped shape the community, including:
Dr. William R. Smith (1828-1894) - early Sioux City doctor and developer of Smith's Villa Addition on the West Side.
George D. Perkins (1840-1914) - owner/editor of the Sioux City Journal 1869-1914 and four-term member of Congress 1891-1899.
John H. Charles (1826-1904) - steamboat owner, railroad promoter, real-estate developer and president of the Floyd Memorial Association, which led the effort to construct the Floyd Monument.
Katherine Weare Nason (1865-1963) - daughter of Sioux City’s first banker George Weare and the first female livestock commission agent in the United States.

Oct 28 Tuesday
October 28th 3-5pm (with potluck to follow): "4th Tuesdays" Service Day at Stone Park. Let's help put out the welcome mat for fall visitors by picking up litter that has gathered throughout the summer. We'll meet at the Stone Lodge parking area at 3pm then carpool to two specific portions of the park which need the most attention. Wear sturdy shoes, your favorite work gloves, and dress according to the weather. FOSP will supply gloves and bags, and are our guides. By 5pm-ish we should be back at the lodge to enjoy a potluck and conversations with fellow volunteers. Electricity and refrigeration is available onsite. BYO table service, and beverage. We'll stoke up the fireplace if there's a chill in the air. We will not have water or toilet access at the lodge, but the pit toilet in the nearby campground is open. . Hosted by Friends of Stone Park and Northwest Iowa Group Sierra Club
