A long-time tradition in Siouxland is back after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. On May 12, 2021 a news conference took place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino detailing this year’s Saturday in the Park Music Festival on July 2nd and 3rd at Grandview Park.

News Release from Saturday in the Park:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 7, 2021

John Fogerty and AJR to Headline 2 Day 2021 Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux        City’s Saturday in the Park Festival

The 2021 Saturday in the Park Main Stage headliners have been confirmed for the 2021 installment of the festival, whose 30th edition was postponed last year due to Covid 19. This year’s event will expand to two days to help control attendance and allow for social distancing.

Grammy award rocker JOHN FOGERTY and indie hit maker’s AJR will headline this year’s festival, which will include another diverse line-up for the events 30th and 31st annual installments. Additional Main Stage and Abe Stage performers for both Friday and Saturday will be announced at a later date.

John Fogerty will headline Saturday evening, closing the show, and AJR will headline the Friday night installment.

This year’s event will take place on Friday, July 2nd from 5pm to 10:30pm and Saturday, July 3rd , from 2pm to 10:30pm. Once again the festival will be held at Grandview Park in Sioux City, IA. The festival will continue to be free to the public.

This Saturday in the Park Festival will incorporate three distinct changes in response to the Covid 19 pandemic. The festival will expand to two days, will have limited attendance for both days (controlled through the distribution of free tickets), and will require patrons to wear masks on the festival grounds. We ask for your understanding during these unprecedented times.

Event Co-Founder Dave Bernstein said, “This year will be one of the most important years in our 30 year history. Now more than ever it’s critical that we get back out in Grandview Park and produce SITP in a responsible and enjoyable way plus provide something we all have so desperately been missing: SITP and free live music. We humbly thank John Fogerty and AJR for agreeing to be part of this endeavor this year.”

The Abe Stage will continue to showcase a diverse line-up of contemporary music but in a new location on the Stone Park Blvd. side of the park. This will allow for additional space for attendees and to avoid the construction area near the water towers.

Saturday in the Park draws tens of thousands of people each year, and is presented for the sixth

consecutive year by Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City.

The Saturday in the Park Festival was founded in 1991 by Dave Bernstein and Adam Feiges. In addition to a line-up of world class artists, the 30th and 31st annual Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City’s Saturday in the Park Festivals will also feature the return of Arts Alley, the KCAU Kids Zone (Saturday only), and some of the best festival food anywhere. The festival wraps up with a fireworks finale at the end of Saturday evening following John Fogerty’s performance.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sioux City will continue to present the festival this year, and Tyson Foods has renewed as the headline sponsor. “We absolutely could not present SITP, and provide this caliber of talent for free, without the generosity and commitment of our sponsors,” said Bernstein. Sponsorships are available by contacting the Saturday in the Park Festival office.

JOHN FOGERTY:

John Fogerty is a true American treasure. As leader of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Fogerty forged a distinctive, groundbreaking sound all his own, equal parts blues, country, pop, rockabilly, R&B, swamp boogie, and Southern fried rock ‘n’ roll, all united by his uniquely evocative lyrical perspective. Fogerty is a Grammy winner and has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as well as the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He is the only musician to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame for his song, “Centerfield,” a staple at baseball stadiums across the country. Among Fogerty’s many hit songs, both as a solo artist and as leader of CCR, highlights include “Centerfield,” “Proud Mary,” “Susie Q,” “Fortunate Son,” “Born on the Bayou,” “Bad Moon Rising,” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” among many others. In 2019, Fogerty celebrated 50 years in music with a worldwide tour with his show,“My 50 Year Trip.” An album, “50 Year Trip: Live at Red Rocks,” featuring a collection of Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) hits, including songs from the set list of his performance at the legendary Woodstock music festival in 1969 among other fan favorites, was released on November 8, 2019. In April 2020, while self-quarantining together the Fogerty Family, featuring John with his sons Shane, Tyler and daughter Kelsy, gathered in their home studio to play some music together. A weekly video series began and became so popular that a digital EP, Fogerty’s Factory, was released via BMG on Fogerty’s birthday, May 28, 2020. An extended, Fogerty’s Factory full album was released on November 20, 2020.

AJR:

Re-envisioning what pop can be in the 21st century, AJR unassumingly emerged as a ubiquitous hit- making outlier and one of the biggest indie bands in the world. Since 2012, the multiplatinum indie pop trio—Adam [bass, vocals], Jack [vocals, guitar], and Ryan [ukulele, piano, vocals]—have generated billions of streams and earned one triple-platinum single, one double-platinum single, four platinum singles, and one platinum album. 2019’s Neotheater marked their biggest first-week debut, bowing at #8 on the Billboard Top 200, #1 on the Top Alternative Albums Chart, and #1 on the Top Rock Albums Chart. Cemented as part of the modern zeitgeist, Spotify touted “Sober Up” [feat. Rivers Cuomo] among the “Best Rock Songs of the 2010s,” while Apple Music included “Weak” on its “Best Alt Songs of the 2010s.” Not to mention, they remain one of the “500 Most-Listened to Artists” on Spotify. On the heels of Neotheater, they dropped the 2020 platinum blockbuster “BANG!”, which they performed on TODAY, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and even at the Macy’s

Thanksgiving Day Parade. Now, the band open up their world like never before on their fourth full- length album, OK ORCHESTRA [S-Curve/BMG] introduced by the single “Way Less Sad.”
