Tribes in Siouxland have been awarded a combined amount of $4.1 million for projects that support the healthcare workforce and facilities.
According to the Indian Health Services, the funds will come from the healthcare facilities and construction fund program. The program is meant to improve healthcare operations and employee retention.
The Santee Sioux Nation, Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, and Omaha Tribe of Nebraska are all recipients of the funds.
In an Omaha Tribe post, it says the investment supports recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals by providing housing and ensuring access to quality care.
It also says it's an important step toward building a stronger, healthier future for its tribal members.
The top eight projects were selected based on their housing needs, remoteness, cost, readiness for implementation, and ability to support staffing.
