One week after Northwest Iowa Democrat Stephanie Steiner lost her bid for a congressional seat, she is now setting her sights on an Iowa Legislature position.

Steiner in a Monday release said she is pursuing the Iowa House District 5 seat.

Since there were no Democrats seeking that seat in the June 2 primary, the option for getting on the ballot is that political parties can hold a convention to nominate another candidate for that office.

That action typically takes place by August.

Steiner lives in Sutherland, and House District 5 covers O’Brien, Cherokee, Buena Vista and Osceola counties.

Incumbent Republican Zach Dieken is not seeking re-election after four years in the Legislature.

Keith Glienke, of Aurelia, won the Republican primary last week, earning 66 percent of the votes.
