In the final days before the June 2 primary election, three Democrats seeking the Iowa 4th congressional district seat are campaigning up to the finish line.
The three Iowa 4th congressional Democratic candidates are Dave Dawson of Lawton, Stephanie Steiner of Sutherland, and Ashley WolfTornabane of Storm Lake.
Steiner is a small livestock producer and a retired nurse, WolfTornabane is a stay at home mother who formerly worked in a school district, and Dawson is an attorney and former member of the Iowa Legislature.
Morningside University Professor Patrick McKinlay said the three Democrats are moving considerably in the counties so people can learn who they are.
“They have moved around the district to introduce themselves, the candidates together in forums, but also in various campaign settings. So, for the party regulars, I think this is a pretty active campaign,” he said.
In a May 8 forum in Sioux City, the Democrats discussed environmental issues, voting regulations, education, and agricultural practices.
WolfTornabane says she wants to fight for a happier, healthier Iowa, where the voices of regular people matter more than those of special interests.
Steiner says she is concerned about the loss of reproductive rights, and, after working in the health field, says it is time for universal health care.
Dawson is the fundraising leader of the trio, and McKinlay said his prior service as a state legislator might appeal to some Democratic voters.
The Democratic winner in the June primary will advance to the November election.
The sole Republican in the field is Chris McGowan, of Sioux City.
Randy Feenstra currently holds the seat for Iowa’s 4th Congressional District. Feenstra is not seeking reelection for the position, as he is running for governor.
