The Associate Superintendent of the Sioux City School District is moving onto a new position at the adjacent school district of Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

SB-L Superintendent Chad Janzen in a Tuesday Facebook post announced the hiring of Angela Bemus as high school principal. THe Sergeant Bluff-Luton School Board has offered a contract to Bemus, for the position to begin this summer.’

Janzen wrote that Bemus has held a wide range of roles over several decades, from teaching to administrative.

“The district looks forward to welcoming her and partnering together to support continued excellence for students and staff,” he said.

Bemus has assumed a higher degree of visibility this school year, as being named acting superintendent for the Sioux City School District, when the new superintendent hired last year was twice placed on leave.

Superintendent Juan Cordova resigned in early 2026.

At a time with much in flux with the leadership in the Sioux City district, Bemus in late January said she will not be a candidate for interim superintendent.

Since that time, another Sioux City Schools administrator, Jim Vanderloo, has been hired as interim superintendent through summer 2027.
