The Sioux City School Board will hold a work session on Monday to discuss the superintendent search.
During the meeting they will provide a recruiting update, discuss the job description, and propose a timeline for the search.
Since February, Jim Vanderloo has been serving as interim superintendent after associate superintendent Angela Bemus went on medical leave. The school board agreed the interim superintendent will serve from April 1st, 2026, through June 2027.
Previously, Bemus had been fulfilling her responsibilities along with the superintendent’s duties.
There is a vacancy in the superintendent position after Juan Cordova resigned earlier this year.
Last week, president of the school board Jan George announced he was resigning from the position due to health issues.
The board members have up to 30 days to appoint a new member. Additionally, school district constituents can also petition to fill the opening by special election.
