The number of candidates seeking the U.S. Senate in Iowa has dropped, with Democrat Nathan Sage ending his campaign on Sunday.
Sage is former Knoxville Chamber of Commerce executive director. His departure leaves two Republican and two Democrats in the field of Iowans seeking the open seat, as Republican U.S. Senator Joni Ernst is not seeking a third term.
The field includes Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson, of Marion, Republican former state senator Jim Carlin, of Sioux City, Democratic state Senator Zach Wahls, of Iowa City, and Democratic state Representative Josh Turek, of Council Bluffs.
In fundraising, Hinson received nearly $4 million in campaign contributions for 2025, and Wahls had roughly $2 million.
A primary election on June 2 will determine the nominees for each party for the November election.
Carlin will be the featured speaker at the Woodbury County Republican Party Central Committee meeting at the downtown Sioux City Public Library on Tuesday evening.
