One of the two multiplex movie chains in Sioux City may be closing, as the downtown ACX Promenade Cinema was closed on Wednesday.

The doors were locked and a notice was taped three places at the entrance saying the  landlord took possession of the building because the tenant didn’t pay rent.

The notice also said, “the locks have been changed and the tenant is no longer permitted to enter or occupy the premises.”

Promenade Cinema was to be the place Thursday through Sunday for the 20th annual Sioux City International Film Festival. At midafternoon Thursday, Film Festival official Greg Giles said there was no thought of canceling the festival.

He announced that the Thursday evening showing of “To Kill A Wolf,” has been moved to the RE/MAX City Centre one block away, which used to be the Riviera Theater.

Giles said festival officials are negotiating with the landlord and tenant concerning the rest of the festival, although they are looking at other possible sites.

“We are hoping to have the Promenade for Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” he said.

The other theater chain in Sioux City is AMC at the Southern Hills Mall.
