Federal Disastor Aid for Derecho is Imminent; Big Spike in C19 Cases In Iowa

American Airlines says today it will stop providing service at Sioux Gateway Airport effective Oct. 7.  It’s one of 15 markets the airline is cutting due to low demand and the expiration of CARES Act funding. United Airlines will begin flying daily from the airport to Denver beginning October 14th

Governor Kim Reynolds announced today that assistance for homeowners under the federal disaster declaration would be approved by President Trump by this afternoon. It would provide funding for homeowners — beyond what their insurance would provide — recovering from the powerful derecho that ripped through the state Aug. 10.

The Iowa Department of Health and Governor Kim Reynolds say today they have fixed a computer "glitch" that caused many recent coronavirus test results to be incorrectly recorded as happening months ago. 

Today the state of Iowa is reporting that another nine people with COVID-19 have died and there are aan additional 293 confirmed cases, according to the state's Coronavirus.Iowa.gov website.  

At 10 a.m. today, the state was reporting 1,012 COVID-19-related deaths.  

Woodbury county has 25 more coronavirus cases today, 3,868

There have been 54 deaths in the country, according to Siouxland District Health. 

The two-week positivity rate for COVID-19 in Plymouth County reached 16.5% on Wednesday.  Anything above 15% allows a school district in the county to apply for a state waiver for virtual learning instead of in-person instruction.  

The Hinton Community School District still plans to have students in the classroom when school starts on Monday because of a low amount of cases in the immediate area.
