The first meeting of a special committee investigating possible modernizations of the three Sioux City high schools will be held on October 6.
Previously, the School Building Advisory Committee with 19 members had been estimated to hold roughly 10 meetings. There will be nine meetings, with two in October, and concluding on June 15, 2027.
The West, North and East high schools were opened in 1972, and are showing their age. Interim Superintendent Jim Vanderloo in August told Siouxland Public Media News that he expects the committee discussions will be broad, including looking at improvements, entirely new high schools or consolidating.
The Sioux City School Board earlier in September hired Portage Partners Consulting to handle a committee facilitating role at the contracted cost of $68,900.
After the meetings are done next summer, the committee will make a recommendation to the board on how to proceed concerning the high schools.
