The process of investigating whether to build new versions or to remodel the three Sioux City public high schools is about to ramp up.
This week, Interim Superintendent Jim Vanderloo told Siouxland Public Media News that a committee with 18 members looking into possible actions with the high schools will likely begin work in September.
A wide swath of community input will be sought over the year ahead, with recommendations and a decision by 2027.
The West, North and East high schools were opened in 1972, and they are showing their age.
“Quite frankly, every option you can think of is on the table,” Vanderloo said.
“Our school board has done a great job of appointing 18 community members to a subcommittee that will hear the current situation we are in and then make some recommendations. Then our board will make a great decision sometime this school year, as to the next steps.
“Do we remodel, do we rebuild, do we consolidate, what is it? Maybe there are many other options out there that people will think of. We just know that (the schools) need some attention.”
