Sioux City School District officials have bought a tract of land on the west side of the city in the vicinity of three schools.
In a special board meeting on Wednesday, the board bought the property at 1727 Casselman Street, which is a former Casey’s convenience store. The approved price was $138,300, with the action cited as a step towards the ongoing district goal of facilities planning.
The board had debated that sale in a meeting last week, but held off while pinpointing such details as the length in which the property could be inspected. Since that time, Casey’s gave the district 45 days to inspect the site.
The board also hired Steffen Engineering for work related to the property.
The tract is near Loess Hills Elementary School, plus also West Middle School and West High School.
