After some extended deliberations, the Sioux City Council approved a one-year funding of nearly $400,000 to Explore Siouxland.
The council had debated financial support going back to last year, including last week, and passed the one-year option in the Monday council meeting.
In December 2025, the council reviewed an Explore Siouxland letter of understanding that pointed to a focus on promoting Sioux City as a destination for tourists, conventions, and sports events by expanding marketing and tourism outreach.
Back in March, Mayor Bob Scott expressed concerns on funding Explore Siouxland. The council members on Monday asked what results Explore Siouxland has had.
Explore Siouxland Executive Director Stacie Anderson said the group serves as an umbrella organization to funnel interest to city and regional events, festivals, hotels, restaurants and more. She said two-way cooperation will fuel more successes.
