In each of the last two weeks, gas prices in Sioux City took big one-day midweek jumps.
Self-serve unleaded gas prices in Sioux City and other towns jumped 30 to 60 cents on August 11, to reach $3.99 per gallon. Now, this Tuesday the prices jumped 20 or more cents to sit at $4.19.
Those big jumps have put Iowa in the rare position of having average self-service unleaded gas prices that are higher than the national average.
Gas prices in Iowa rose by nearly 25 cents per gallon over the month of July, then another combined 38 cents so far in August. The new weekly Iowa report showed an increase of 34 cents..
The current average Iowa price of $4.13 per gallon is $1.24 cents more when compared to one year ago. The national unleaded price is $4.09.
Prices are from the American Automobile Association, as reported each Wednesday by the Iowa Department of Agriculture. The Tuesday jump has not been accounted for in the newest report.
