Gas prices in Iowa rose by nearly 25 cents per gallon over the month of July, new statistics show.
Up through July 8, the weekly gas price in Iowa for self-serve unleaded dropped for seven consecutive weeks. However, two steep weekly climbs over the next two weeks, for a combined 32 cents, took the price to $3.80 per gallon.
To finish off the month, the price for self-serve unleaded dropped by 5 cents this week to $3.75 per gallon. The current price is 83 cents per gallon more when compared to one year ago, and the national un;leaded price is $4.09.
Stations in Siouxland are selling unleaded in the range from $3.58 to $3.89.
Prices are from the American Automobile Association, as reported each Wednesday by the Iowa Department of Agriculture.
The prices spiked as the war in Iran resulted in the Strait of Hormuz being greatly blocked from shipping oil from Mideast nations.
