The League of Women Voters organization is seeking to hold a debate in Northwest Iowa for the two nominees in the Iowa 4th congressional district contest.
The league, with chapters in Sioux City, Ames and statewide, have extended formal invitations to Democrat Dave Dawson and Republican Chris McGowan to debate this fall prior to the November election.
The League has proposed several dates in late September and October, and is tentatively planning the event at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City.
The League is seeking responses from mcGowan and Dawson by August 5, then the date can be officially set.
The League of Women Voters in Sioux City for decades has held candidate forums for people seeking legislative, county and school board positions.
Sioux City chapter President Courtney Kuenn said such events help voters compare positions on important issues and make informed decisions.
The League is ensuring that the participants will get equal speaking time and impartial moderation.
The Iowa 4th congressional position is an open seat for 2027, as three-term Republican Randy Feenstra did not seek re-election. The district covers Northwest and North Central Iowa.
