Iowa Democrats on Friday have failed to win back their first-in-the-nation status for the 2028 presidential nominating schedule.
A panel of the Democratic National Committee, or DNC, selected South Carolina to be the first state like in 2024. That’s followed by Nevada and New Hampshire.
Iowa GOP Chairman Jeff Kaufmann says Iowa Democratic leaders need to go rogue and throw their own first in the nation caucus.
“Bottom line is, the DNC was absolutely razor focused to go after Iowa. This isn’t just a process, an intense review, this is an intentional focused disrespect of a state,” said Kaufmann.
Iowa Republicans still hold their first-in-the nation position for their party. Iowa Democrats lost their first-in-the-nation status following technical failures in the 2020 caucuses.
The new calendar will have to be approved by the full DNC which is set to meet next month. The DNC recently introduced steeper penalties for states that stray from the calendar.
