The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors had a long discussion regarding the possible data center in Salix during its meeting on Tuesday.
On June 12, chairman Mark Nelson first told Siouxland Public Media about the possibility of a county moratorium on data centers.
In the Tuesday meeting all five supervisors said they were open to the concept of such a moratorium and will potentially next address it in the 23rd meeting.
Nelson referenced when the county in recent years set guidelines for solar and wind projects.
He said it was a long process with many meetings, and he would like a similar thorough process for data centers.
Throughout the meeting, Nelson reiterated Woodbury County doesn't have authority within Salix city limits.
All five of the supervisors said they were disheartened by the lack of communication and the process the city annexation went through.
Kevin Nelson, Mayor of Salix, told Siouxland Public Media on Wednesday that the city did follow the legal procedures for the annexation of land into Salix.
Concerning the city letting people know about the annexation process, Nelson said that the required public notice was published in the Sergeant Bluff Advocate in the time period required by Iowa law.
Mayor Nelson added that in March he spoke with Supervisor Nelson about the annexation. The mayor said he described the paperwork and the families that were involved.
