After a fast rise of gas prices in Iowa from March through mid-May, the weekly gas price in Iowa has fallen three consecutive weeks.
When the Memorial Day weekend arrived, national prices were the highest level since 2022. In Iowa that week, the price for self-serve unleaded rose by 9 cents to reach $4.28 per gallon.
In the three weeks since, the weekly price drops have been for 16 cents, 21 cents and now 13 cents on June 10, for a combined 50 cents, to sit at an average Iowa price of $3.78.
That amount is 86 cents per gallon more when compared to one year ago, and the national un;leaded price is $4.15.
Gas prices hit $3 per gallon mark in Iowa the first week in March, and back on May 4, prices surged 40 cents in one day, moving well past the $4-per-gallon mark in Sioux City
Prices are from AAA, as reported each Wednesday by the Iowa Department of Agriculture.
The prices spiked as the war in Iran resulted in the Strait of Hormuz being greatly blocked from shipping oil from Mideast nations.
