For the first time in one year, the average unleaded gas price in Iowa has reached $3 per gallon.

The updated gas prices from AAA on Friday showed the unleaded price at $3.00, while it is $3.04 in both South Dakota and Nebraska.

The $3 Iowa price is up by 36 cents per gallon from one week ago, when it was $2.64.

The prices are spiking nationally as the Strait of Hormuz is being greatly blocked from shipping oil from Mideast nations, amid military strikes involving the United States, Israel and Iran, plus other nations, which began the last week of February.

The national price for unleaded sits at $3.32, compared to $3.11 one year ago today.

The recent quick rise, follows a period where the price of gas in Iowa has bounced up and down over the last two months. It sat on February 12 at $2.58, which was essentially where it was in mid-December.
