More federal money is coming to Northwest Iowa, as communities continue to address costs in bouncing back from historic June 2024 flooding.

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley on Wednesday announced almost $8 million is coming from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to five Siouxland entities.

The largest grant of $3.1 million is going to the Spencer School District, after the Johnson Elementary School building was submerged by up to four feet of water for multiple days. The City of Spencer is getting $2.3 million for repairs to parks and 17 wastewater lift stations.

The City of Rock Valley is getting $2 million for library repairs after the Rock River flooding submerged the children’s section and the archival storage rooms.

The Rock Valley First Reformed Church is getting $370,000 to fund exterior and interior building repairs. The fifth recipient is the Sioux County Conservation Board.

“These grants are welcome news for communities across Iowa who are rebuilding from severe storms,” Grassley said in a release.
