Jebediah Hibbs has been selected via appointment process to the Sioux City School Board.

That action was announced near the conclusion of a late afternoon special board meeting, which preceded a second evening board meeting.

In a letter to the board, HIbbs said he is a person who understands the day-to-day realities of families whose children are being educated by the district. Hexalso has led the parent volunteer group that supports the East High School show choir program.

Three people had applied for the position last week, with Paul William Rhodes, Amy DeGroot-Hammer, and Hibbs.

DeGroot-Hammer withdrew before the portion of the meeting before each person spoke about their capabilities with the board members. She previously worked in the school district as a counselor.

In November 2025, Hibbs unsuccessfully ran for the school board. A few weeks ago, he attempted to fill a prior board vacancy left by the resignation of Jan George.

The most recent board vacancy was created by the resignation of member Lance Ehmcke in May. Ehmcke left due to health issues.

Jan George also left the school board in mid-March for the same reasons.

Hibbs will be sworn in as a member later Monday evening.
