There has been a lot of recent news concerning candidates for the U.S. Senate seat in Iowa..

Republican candidate Ashley Hinson said she would like to create more tax incentives for first time homebuyers.

She made her comments at a campaign event in Ankeny with U.S Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who traveled over from his home state of South Dakota.

Hinson hosted a roundtable to discuss how tax cuts and Trump administration policies are affecting Iowans.

Hinson says federal legislation that removed taxes on tips and overtime hours helps people save, but there needs to be more support.

Jim Carlin, of Sioux City, the other Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Joni Ernst, on Monday criticized Hinson for what he called her election-year interest in banning congressional profiteering on insider knowledge.

On the Democratic side of the race, candidate Zach Wahls held a campaign event with Massachusetts Senator. Elizabeth Warren on Sunday.

Wahls is a state senator from Coralville and former Senate minority leader.

He was joined onstage by progressive Democrat Warren, who ran for president in 2020.

Warren said Wahls is the best candidate to take on Republicans in Congress, and fight for policies that make basic necessities like housing more affordable for Iowans.

Wahls faces state Representative Josh Turek in the Democratic primary on June 2.

Early voting in the Iowa primary begins on Wednesaday, March 13.
