An important primary election to narrow the field of candidates is approaching in Nebraska, with voting wrapping up on Tuesday, May 12.

Republican Congressman Adrian Smith has represented Nebraska's 3rd congressional district for 20 years, after first winning the seat in 2006. However, before Smith can move onto the November election to face Democrat Becky Stille, of South Sioux City, he has a fellow Republican in his path.

Republican David Huebner, from Lincoln County, is on the primary ballot with Smith.

Smith, 55, who was a state senator for eight years before winning the largest Nebraska congressional seat, often touts his pro-business agenda. That includes his votes for the two tax cutting measures signed into law by President TRump in 2017 and 2025.

On his campaign website, Huebner, 39, describes himself as a Christian, family man and patriot. A prime focus will be on border security, and he is a full-throated supporter of Trump.

Early voting has been underway for a few weeks in the Nebraska Primary.
