Democratic U.S. Senate candidates Josh Turek and Zach Wahls argued in their first debate on Iowa PBS on Tuesday evening.
During the debate Turek and Wahls discussed issues such as immigration, healthcare, and agriculture.
Both candidates said they support public options for healthcare in the country.
When it came to the conflict with Iran, Turek said the government should be spending the money on healthcare and education instead of a war. He mentioned how hospitals and schools are closing.
Wahls touted his multi-pronged plan concerning Medicare, which includes lowering the age to enroll in Medicare and to allow any American or employer to buy into that program.
Turek and Wahls will have another debate next week. The winner of the primary election on June 2 will advance to the November election.
