The Sioux City School Board has received 10 applications for the superintendent position for the school district.
According to the school district website, the board will interview the semi-finalists for the position on Monday and Tuesday.
After the interviews, the board will determine the finalists and announce the top candidates on Thursday.
From April 28 to 30, the finalists will participate in community tours and in-person interviews with the board. The school district website says the public may attend community forums and submit questions for each finalist.
During the May 4th week, the school board will go into closed session to review the candidates’ interviews and community response.
Jim Vanderloo has been acting as interim superintendent since February when associate superintendent Angela Bemus went on medical leave. According to a clause in Vanderloo's contract, the board must notify him if it plans to extend his contract by May 15th.
If the board selects a candidate as the new superintendent, their term will begin on July 1st, 2026.
Previously, Angela Bemus had been fulfilling her responsibilities and the superintendent’s duties.
The search for superintendent is due to Juan Cordova’s resignation which went into effect on March 31.
