Last year in September 2025, the ninth annual Unity in the Community block party took place in Sioux City.

Now, organizers have announced that the event for this year has been cancelled.

A Facebook post on Sunday said that “care for our community’s well-being” impacted the decision to not hold the event. The Sioux City Unity in the Community event was created to make connections between a wide variety of community groups and the police department, via “unity, peace, hope, love, and prayer.”

The event has featured music, games and food.

The cancellation post also said, “As our nation navigates challenges such as shifting priorities and local changes, our top priority remains the safety and unity of all community members. We're grateful for the decade of unity and celebration we've shared.’
