The route of towns for the 53rd installment of the RAGBRAI ride is now known, and the first day rolls through Monona County south of Sioux City.

THe full ride is shorter than many, with 391miles, when winding across Iowa from Onawa to Dubuque.

RAGBRAI officials released the full route on Friday.

On Sunday, July 19, the bicyclists will depart from Onawa and move through the towns of Turin, Soldier, Dunlap and Earling, while bound for Harlan. Other overnight stops for the week include Guthrie Center, Boone, Marshalltown, Independence, Dyersville and Dubuque.

Last year, The Register’s Great Annual Bike Ride, or RAGBRAI also went through Siouxland, beginning in Orange City, and subsequent overnight stops were in Milford and Estherville.

On that ride, for a route of almost 50 miles, a RAGBRAI route for the first time included some miles in far southern Minnesota.
