The Sioux City School Board held a work session on Monday to discuss the superintendent search.
During the session, they discussed the job description, provided a GR recruiting update, and considered how they should conduct the search.
Board members agreed that when posting the job, it needs to be transparent that the school district faces financial challenges due to declining enrollment, but it should highlight that the district is in good financial standing compared to other districts in the state.
Director Earl Miller suggested that the empty board seat be filled before the superintendent search is conducted, for the person who assumes the position is part of the process.
It was mentioned that if the board starts with an internal search and doesn't find what they are looking for, they can extend the current interim superintendent Jim Vanderloo's term and hire an agency to continue the search.
There was still a question of if the board should conduct the search or if it should hire a recruiting agency.
The board members agreed not to rush the superintendent search process and reaffirmed they have until April 10th to fill the empty board seat.
