Sioux City resident pleads not guilty for spray painted flowers

Ways To Subscribe

A Sioux City resident who was charged for spray painting flowers on manhole covers last week has pleaded not guilty.

At the time of his arrest, Brandon Bradshaw was carrying a bag with eight cans of spray paint and other painting supplies. Since that time many people have said they don't think he should have been arrested, and an online petition sought to have charges dropped.

There are approximately 10 flowers in the Morningside area of the city.

Earlier this week, the Sioux City Council said that they were not going to remove the flowers.

Public artwork placed in the city must go through a process that includes contacting the city manager’s office to ensure that designs align with community standards and other benchmarks.

Bradshaw pleaded not guilty on Thursday, as first reported by the Sioux City Journal.

Bradshaw waived his right to a speedy trial and has a pretrial conference on January 8th, 2026.
