Some money is now pinpointed to finish a few miles of a trail that will link recreational trails in Dickinson and Clay counties.

The Iowa Transportation Commission this week awarded a $295,000 grant to the Dickinson County Trails Board for the final phase of a recreational trail connecting with Clay County.

That trail segment will be paved by summer 2026, as first reported by Explore Okoboji.

Back in September, paving crews extended the Dickinson County Trail system on the south edge of Milford along the west side of U.S. Highway 71.

Within the past year, a Clay County piece was extended from Spencer about 7 miles north through Fostoria, and all the way north to the border with Dickinson County.

Now, to fully connect Dickinson County to Spencer, all that remain are a few miles linking Milford to Fostoria in southern Dickinson County.

The Iowa Transportation Commission gave a combined $3.1 million to nine projects, including in Pottawattamie County..
