While the field of nine candidates has been set for the Sioux City Council after a filing deadline last week, elsewhere in the rest of Iowa there is more time for other candidates to file to be on the November 4 ballot.

More broadly throughout Northwest Iowa, the November 4 election will include hundreds of contests for school board, city council, and mayor positions.

Outside of Sioux City, the filing period for people to file for those positions began on August 25 and runs through September 18. People have to get a certain number of signatures on petitions to get on the ballot.

Concerning the seven member Sioux City School Board, there will be three positions going before voters. The terms of board president Jan George, Bobby Michaelson and Dan Greenwell will expire at the end of this year.

On Wednesday, George said he may decide on whether to pursue a second term roughly next week.

In the Sioux City Council contests for three seats, there are nine candidates, so there will be a special extra primary election on October 7 to reduce the number on the November 4 ballot.
