South Dakota Public Broadcasting held a press conference about the impacts of federal funding clawback on Thursday.
Due to loss of federal funding, SDPB is facing a shortfall of $2.2 million for Fiscal Year 2025
As a result of the funding cuts, SDPB will eliminate 15 current positions and leave five open positions unfilled.
The reductions include 7 news staff and producers of the local radio program In the Moment.
Julie Overgaard, executive director of South Dakota Public Broadcasting, said it was the most difficult decision she had to make in her time as executive director of SDPB, and that she is sad for the people who suffer from the losses announced today.
Layoffs are expected to take effect October 31st, 2025.
