The Sioux City Council approved a lease agreement during its Monday meeting, allowing the Sioux City Fast Pitch Softball Association and Briar Cliff University shared use of Hubbard Park.
Under the lease agreement both groups will operate and manage softball programs including scheduling practices, league games, and tournaments.
In a press release Dr. Matthew Draud, President of Briar Cliff University said, “We’re proud that our charger softball team will call one of Sioux City’s most iconic landmarks home. It’s a win for our students, our fans, and the city”.
Hubbard Park opened in 1928 as a city park, and was developed into a ball field the following year.
The lease agreement begins July 28th, and ends December 31, 2035.
*After the Trump Administration froze over $6 billion in education grants earlier this summer, South Dakota education officials say federal funds are being released.
According to South Dakota’s News Watch report, South Dakota’s share of the funding is just under $26 million.
Rob Monson, executive director of School Administrators of South Dakota said the grants fund federal programs that school districts across the state participate in.
Monson also said the funds under “title funds” are being released to the state and with grants secured funding is steady for the school year.
*Today Governor Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for Hancock, Osceola and Sioux counties regarding the July 29th severe weather.
The proclamation allows the counties to use state resources and initiates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program for those counties.
Households earning up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level can receive up to $7,000 from the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program.
Applicants for the grant program have 45 days from the proclamation date to apply.
The Disaster Case Advocacy program helps with disaster related hardship or injury.
Disaster Case Advocates help clients create a recovery plan and guide them in getting needed resources and services. This program does not have an income requirement and closes 180 days from the proclamation.
